The New Museum is a leading destination for new art and new ideas. It is Manhattan's only dedicated contemporary art museum and is respected internationally for the adventurousness and global scope of its curatorial program. Tokyo-based architects SANAA partnered with Gensler to realize this competition-winning design for the 52,000 square-foot New Museum on the Bowery. The museum accommodates four flexible gallery floors and a host of support and public space, including an auditorium, int a tight footprint. A dramatic, glass-enclosed “skyroom” tops the museum and offers panoramic views of New York City.
Design Strategies provided all of the exterior metal cladding as well as metal mesh ceilings on the interiors, working closely with both SANAA and Gensler.
