MetLife sought to reposition this basement cafeteria as an amenity space that felt open and expansive despite having no natural light. The ceiling height was just 8’6”, so a mirrored metal ceiling was used to make the space appear larger than it actually is. Design Strategies and Accent Ceilings provided a stainless steel mirror panel system that intentionally distorts the imaging while providing butt-jointed metal panels that are fully 100% accessible. Newmat provided stretched membrane light boxes that give the space a soft, diffuse ambiance.
A lobby is a transitional environment between the city and the office, a brief reprieve from the bustle of the street and the work that lies ahead. The design straddles the line between corporate restraint and contemporary culture to create a playful, bold identity for 605 Third Avenue in Manhattan.

Sleek glass office fronts and polished concrete made the acoustical performance of the Sky Acoustic ceiling system critical to this office and training space. Luminous ceilings, saw-tooth acoustical elements, and smooth custom-colored acoustical ceilings complimented this high-tech space.
The design of this newly renovated museum, which is located on the former site of two World's Fairs, required a 105,000 square foot interior with room for an expanded permanent collection of art and culture, spacious temporary galleries, and expanded educational and public events spaces. To provide the perfect lighting and acoustical treatment for this huge space, Grimshaw chose Design Strategies to install approximately 27,000 square feet of ceilings using ACM15/white matte micro-perforated membranes with custom ghost perimeter rails curved where necessary and 1"- 6lb. density acoustical insulation backing. Also installed were 110 custom fabricated ceiling panels/baffles with concealed perimeter angle (approximately 3,000 square feet total) using ACM15/white matte micro-perforated membranes to create the perfect balance between light blocking and light reflecting in the skylight areas. The overall effect is that of an enormous, light-filled atrium with the look and feel of a beautiful and exciting community commons.
The challenge faced on the Washington University Project was to acoustically treat the ceiling without obscuring the view through the large glass ceiling. Newmat’s NewLight T8/Crystal membrane, with its patented micro-perforated technology, provided just the right amount of sound absorption to transform the space into a great gathering area and events room. The NewLight T8/Crystal membrane was stretched onto 245 custom-fabricated aluminum frames that were suspended approximately 6” below the glass and held in place with torsion springs. The suspended frames provided the right amount of airspace to achieve the desired acoustic results while also allowing easy removal for cleaning.
